July 2019, Week 3

July 2019, Week 3

Young farmers ages 4-12 have been exploring the farm through our Summer Farm Camp, enjoying another unforgettable summer as they experience everything the land has to offer. There are a few spots still open for curious children who want to develop their connection to the earth. They'll re-engage with nature as they tune in to the rhythms of the seasons. New and returning campers grow along with the plants, nurturing their minds, senses, curiosity, and confidence.

THIS WEEK IN YOUR SIMPLE SHARE...

Garlic Braid - one braid
In Romania, garlic braids are traditionally hung on front doors to ward off evil spirits, vampires, and witches. Here at Petersen Farm, we think garlic braids are so pretty that we hang them in our kitchens, popping off a clove at a time, for fresh garlic all season long.

Marjoram or Cutting Celery - one bunch

Cooking With Marjoram
Cutting celery is a leafy, aromatic herb that carries a strong celery flavor and can be used to add flavor in recipes where you don't want to use its crunchier, stringy cousin, celery.

Canary Melon - one melon
The Canary melon is a large, bright-yellow elongated melon with a pale green to white inner flesh. This melon has a distinctively sweet flavor that is slightly tangier than a honeydew melon. The flesh looks like that of a pear but is softer and tastes a little like cantaloupe.

Chickpea - one bunch

Cheese - one block

At Heber Valley Artisan Cheese, their mission is to help others experience the difference of the farmer’s touch. Their fully integrated dairy farm to creamery delivers a true farm-to-table experience.  They believe the finest handcrafted cheeses, fresh or aged,  begins with the perfect base:  premium milk – pure, rich and creamy; a “recipe” they've been perfecting on their farm for nearly 100 years.

Salsa del Diablo Fresh Salsa - 8 ounces
You will get the choice between Salsa del Diablo's "devilishly delicious" Mild Special Reserve and Medium Special Reserve. They started making salsa over 15 years ago out of the sheer love of salsa. Since then they have been improving and refining their recipes. Having lived in Arizona and California, their inspiration is to make authentic, flavorful and unforgettable salsa.

 We'll see you next week!
